Asbestos is a toxic substance used in the construction and chemical purposes. The history of this chemical is very interesting and controversial, especially for Canada which is one of the leading manufacturers of this chemical in the world. Asbestos was used extensively in the 19th century by manufacturers and builders. Because its resistance to heat, electricity and chemical damage, its sound absorption and tensile strength are used in buildings, fabrics, retardant coatings of fire, concrete, bricks, pipes and fireplace cement, heat, fire, and acid resistant gaskets, pipe insulation, ceiling insulation, panels fireproof gypsum, flooring, roofing, lawn furniture, drywall compound of common and oven, even the electrical wiring and heating plate. Prohibition the use of this substance is economically important for the country and in 1999 the Canadian government representatives appeared before the World Trade Organization to challenge the prohibition of asbestos, yet this initiative was not supported. Today, this chemical is banned in 60 countries in whole or in part. As for the situation asbestos in Spain is illegal to sell in the country, with mining and export of asbestos is legal.
